Still Serious About Seed - Gunning 2009

Seed Solutions has been out and about throughout October and November.

Laboratory Supervisor Maria Swinn, Ops Coordinator Glenn Harding and myself had the opportunity to attend Greening Australia's Still Serious About Seed - Gunning Field Day just outside of Canberra.  Native seed for on farm revegetation and seed orcharding is an ever growing industry and presents unique issues in terms of seed supply, handling, testing and quality.  Seed Solutions is proud to be a technical resource in the development of native seed for on farm revegetation.

Western Tour – 2009

Coating Technicians and Lab staff combined forces to take on Victoria's Western District and Mallee.  Besides some well deserved R&R, staff were given an instructive tour of the Southern Farming Systems Trials at Mininera by Cam Conboy of PlantTech.  The plots indicated this year’s Seed Solutions/PlantTech pasture legume trial treatments were showing promising results.

The bus continued heading north to Longerenong Agricultural College where the Canola was about to be windrowed and wheat, barley, faba beans and lentils were quickly maturing in the sudden hot weather.  John and Chris gave us really relevant, valuable information and everyone walked away feeling more knowledgeable on field cropping.

Continuing north we headed into SA, travelling through the Mallee to Parilla.  Anthony Plum of Parilla Potatoes met us on a very hot early morning to demo his carrot sowing equipment and show us through some steaming carrot plantings.
